Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does it take to create a Memorial Site?
It only takes a few minutes to create a beautiful page you can share with your family and friends. If you find you need help, please contact us by clicking here.

  • How do I begin?
All you need is your loved one's name and date of birth. Click here to get started.

  • Will there be ads on the Memorial Site?
No. Our goal is to create a peaceful and respectful space; therefore, the site is ad-free. Your Memorial Page will only show the information that you put there.

  • Why choose a theme?
Our diverse array of designs allows you to customize your Memorial Site to reflect and honor your loved one's life. If you don’t find something you like, we welcome you to contact our design team here. (There may be a design fee for this service.)

  • Can I change the theme without having to re-enter any data?
Yes. Go to "Settings" to try other themes.

  • How do I write an obituary?
While most obituarys follow a standard format, they vary in length and personalization. At The Plot, we recognize the obituary as a unique opportunity to tell the story of your loved one in the most honoring way possible. If you would like help, our team can work with you to craft a beautiful, personalized, and memorable tribute. Click here to connect with one of our professional writers.

  • How do I let family and friends know about service details, obituary posting, and the online website?
Through ThePlot.com, you can post to Facebook, upload contacts or enter email addresses. Emails will be directly sent but can also be forwarded to those who were not on initial contact lists.

  • Can I upload a video of the service for friends to see afterwards?
Yes. People can view the service through a link on the Memorial Site. If you would like the eulogies transcribed and uploaded to the Memorial Site, click here.

  • Should I ask people to RSVP to the funeral/memorial service?
RSVPs, while certainly not required, are becoming increasingly common for funerals and receptions. In addition to giving you an idea of how many people to expect, RSVPs can help with name recollection on the day of the service—particularly for friends and family members you might not have seen in awhile.

  • Can I set up a site without asking people to RSVP?
    Yes.

  • Can I create a separate invitation for a smaller, private gathering, if we want that?
Yes. Smaller events (such as a family dinner the night before the funeral, or a post-reception gathering for close friends) can receive customized, separate invitations through your site.

  • Can I direct people to a particular florist or to a preferred charity?
Yes. A designated florist can coordinate arrangements and allocate flowers where they are needed (at the church, reception, or home). They can even stagger deliveries so that flowers don’t all arrive at one time (which can be a beautiful way to let people know they are loved during the weeks after the service). And if friends would prefer to donate to a charity instead of sending flowers, they'll be able to easily access that information on your site.

  • Can I thank people for flowers, meals, donations and condolence notes through ThePlot.com?
    Coming soon!

  • Can I add other family members or friends to help me manage the Memorial Site?
Yes. You can share your username and password with others to help you manage the site.

  • Can I make the Memorial Site private?
Yes. You can password protect the whole Memorial Site or individual pages on the Memorial Site.

  • How much does it cost?
There is no cost to use The Plot at this time. In order to keep the site ad free, we will charge for premium services at some point in the future.

  • Can family and friends upload photos and stories to the Memorial Site?
Yes. Shared memories are often one of the best gifts we can give to the bereaved. Verbal stories are not often recorded, and letters and emails can be difficult to collect and share. Stories posted on your site can offer encouragement today and then be accessible for generations to come.

  • Can certain comments and photos be hidden within the Memory Book?
Yes. We recognize the personal nature of some comments and photos. The Plot provides the option for them to be seen only by the person administering the site. Posts may also be prioritized for viewing by visitors.

  • How will I know when people have uploaded memories to the Memorial Site?
Administrators will receive notifications to approve memories for viewing.

  • Can I ask people to post additional comments at a later date or on an anniversary?
Yes. We’ve found it to be profoundly important to families to exchange remembrances on birthdays, holidays, and other significant dates. You can send reminders to friends and family on this milestones.

  • Can I have a Memory Book printed?
    Coming Soon!
